Take a look on <http://www.avforums.com/>. All the pricing is in
sterling, and these forums also discuss UK availability, too -
perhaps the location influences how useful I find this forum, but I
find the discussion there very helpful.

I've done a lot of searching of price-match shopping engines to find
TVs at specifications I can afford, comparing them with Google
searches of "model number site:avforums.com" - I started this after
finding so often this site to be the top result for "model number any
good?". Often the (lack of the) killer feature that renders the TV
useless to me will be well-documented in their threads, and I can
move on to some other model.

Mr Smolka's advice is clearly at odds with mine, so maybe the
situation is different in the US, but here some of the most
competitive pricing is from Costco, the big chains of "electrical
warehouse" type superstores, and occasionally a bargain from Tesco or
Asda (the largest supermarkets in the UK). Such stores are often very
happy to give a 3-year warranty and it has been observed even should
a TV bought on this basis fail a day outside cover, a £1000 TV works
out to less than £1 per day.
