I can almost guarantee this has nothing to do with XvMC.  Any old junker 
computer can play SD when it's setup correctly.  This is certainly some 
other setup issue.  Perhaps you could post a snip of a frontend log?  Maybe 
try changing a few settings?  For example I can't use OpenGL Vsync or I get 
prebuffer pauses with some recordings.  I also have to enable extra audio 
buffering otherwise some 720p recordings stutter.  I also enabled UseEvents 
with the latest Nvidia driver which helped significantly.

In short I've spent hours tweaking to make playback perfect (well, at least 
99% perfect) and you'll probably have to do the same.
