I don't know that I can help otherwise, but in order to eliminate the  
commercial flagging you mention you can always record something OTHER  
than a basketball game & see if the problem recurs. If playback issue  
is restricted to basketball - and not exhibited by sitcoms - then you  
had better make this clear!
