did you perform this step: http://mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-5.html#ss5.3 ?

then review the mythtv-setup section of http://mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-9.html#ss9.1

basically you need to set up a source for guide data and then tell mythtv about it by configuring the "video sources" section in mythtv-setup.
