I use a PSP to do just that.  Others are using video ipods and PDAs.  I
think it's a pretty common usage for Myth.

I believe you can use a DishPlayer with external content too (ie. Myth) -
don't quote me on that though.

Myth has a concept called "User Jobs" which allows you to call a script
after a recording is complete.  It's a pretty simple matter to set up a
script to transcode your file into the appropriate format from there.  I
haven't got it automatically syncing to my PSP, but that's more a result
of the limited storage I have on it (1G memory stick only.)  I don't watch
"current events" type programming on the PSP, so having it sync overnight
isn't a priority for me right now.
