did not solve the problem however :-(
Using NO_XV=1 leads to frequent mythfrontend crashes, and
I still get no picture.

I will stick to using mplayer for watching TV on the thin client
and remote x session. This works nice when I switch to a very
low screen resolution.

But, this leads to another problem:
Now, before starting mplayer, I need to tell mythbackend to STOP
collecting EIT Data so that it will free the card and I can access it 
with mplayer.

Q: Anyone any idea, how I can command mythbackend to stop
collecting EIT data and free the dvb card?
