I was just about to file a ticket for another MythWeb bug I'm seeing,
and saw the following ticket (http://cvs.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/1626)
with included patch to enable MythWeb to set Playback Groups for
recordings.

It's _only_ 8 months old, so hopefully this functionality will make it
into MythWeb proper soon.
