[mythtv-users] Alternatives to lvm (fuse?)

Hi all, I want to be able to use multiple drives, however, I don't
want to use lvm, raid, or anything else that will build a ONE massive
filesystem ontop of a hds.

I want to be able to accomplish multiple things:
1. Be able to spin down the drives when not in use.
2. If one drive fails, only lose data on that drive, however, the
other drives are still accessible.
3. Not be stuck with a configuration for life. For example, if I
don't need 8 drives, I can pull one out and not bring down the fs.

I don't need the redundancy of raid and don't want to use LVM since
using concatenation, when losing a single drive will mean that I lose
the entire volume (or course I can try to recover the data, but that
would mean more headaches).

A couple people around me have suggested using fuse
(http://sourceforge.net/projects/fuse/).

I was wondering if there are any other suggestions. thx.
