Oh man. That sucks, Dave. Sorry to hear about that. I had the same thing
happen to me last month. I was running soft updated under FreeBSD to host
my webserver and personal blog. Then, one day, files that I knew were there
suddenly couldn't be found. And then others. And then whole directories.
Turned out, one by one, my file systems had been corrupted.
The box is sitting on my desk right now while I contemplate various
scenarios of hardware and software redundancy (such as vinum).
I'm glad you were able to retain most of your data though, Dave. I was in
the middle of coming up with a viable backup solution on a limited budget
and ended up losing everything.
