You're probably caught in the middle of the changeover of ivtv adding
support for V4L2 and MythTV being updated to take this into account.
The ivtvctl utility is being replaced with v4l2ctl as ivtv gets
incorporated into the kernel proper, and the errors from MythTV you
are seeing could be reflecting the version of MythTV is not 100%
compatible with the version of ivtv you are running. Newer versions of
MythTV should provide support for both the older and newer ivtv

Are you running 0.20-fixes or 0.20 vanilla?
