[mythtv-users] Something is currently using /dev/dsp

I had a similar problem. I found that I had two options:

1. Turn off all use of audio in my window manager.
2. Have myth use the "ALSA:something" style of device, instead of 
/dev/something (OSS).

I opted for #2.

One way you could try to diagnose what has the device open is:

   lsof | grep /dev/dsp
