This is NOT a MythTV problem.

If you refrain from posting general Linux issues here then it keeps
the list uncluttered & we can better help in future when you come to
post problems which actually relate to the MythTV software.

When you do repost you will have to state what kind of hardware
you're using that it doesn't need a boot-loader.
One might interpret your comments to mean "GRUB is only required on
PCs that dual-boot between Linux & Windows, and GRUB is not required
on PCs that boot only Linux" - this is NOT the case.
The BIOS of conventional PCs (such as my old x86 hardware) reads the
first sector of the hard-drive on start-up. As I understand it, the
BIOS loads this straight into RAM & executes it; the boot-loader sits
in this section and is a program which knows where to look for the
kernel & os filesystems.
