There are alternate ways of building a ground system. Important thing is
to make a low impedance path for the lightning current. Otherwise it
will seek out your service ground through the grounded conductor that
feeds MythTV equipment. This will cook everything along the way.
Every commercial antenna I have ever purchased includes a reproduction
of the National Electrical Code minimum grounding requirements.
At the very lease, use a coax ground block, and bury 25 foot of bare 2#
copper in a trench to your mast. Bolt all of this to the first solid
connection point of the mast.
