You most likely need to do
[myth at mythtv ~]$ uname -a
Linux mythtv 126.96.36.199-63.fc8 #1 SMP Wed Nov 21 18:51:08 EST 2007 i686 i686
[myth at mythtv ~]$ yum install lirc-kmdl-188.8.131.52-63.fc8
substituting your kernel.
