Upconversion is taking a SD signal and "upconverting" to HD 1080i. using
this MB i would suggest using a DVI to HDMI converter then connect it to you
HDTV with a HDMI cable. This will give you a 1080p video connection.

For audio use a SPDIF bracket and connnect to you Digital out header on your
MB. then connect this to your sound reciever. In linux set up AC3
passthrough.

no, the upconversion doesnt really matter. You could run the HDMI cable
thorugh the reciever so you can use it a switch between other HDMI sources.
