Jacob,

The 2Ghz box is probably a bit too slow for HD, unless you're using Xvmc.
If it's really difficult to migrate the XP box to your 2Ghz processor, try
the Geforce enabling Xvmc and see how that works out. There are plenty of
HD clips out there you can download & check out.

I have a HD Homerun. I like it... works great, easy to set up, etc etc.
There are plenty of people that have had a lot of luck with the pcHDTV
cards.

As for the 16:9 resolution... I can't say for sure, since I use Xfce for my
backend/frontend (mythbuntu), but I just selected "generic LCD monitor 16:9"
and it worked great for my plasma connected via the RGB port. here's the
relevant section of the xorg.conf:

Section "Monitor"
        Identifier "Generic Monitor"
        Vendorname "Generic LCD Display"
        Modelname "LCD Panel 1024x768"
        Horizsync 31.5-48.0
        Vertrefresh 56.0 - 65.0
  modeline "800x600 at 56" 36.0 800 824 896 1024 600 601 603 625 +hsync +vsync
  modeline "800x600 at 60" 40.0 800 840 968 1056 600 601 605 628 +hsync +vsync
  modeline "1280x768 at 60" 80.14 1280 1344 1480 1680 768 769 772 795 -hsync
+vsync
  modeline "1280x720 at 60" 74.48 1280 1336 1472 1664 720 721 724 746 -hsync
+vsync
        Gamma 1.0
EndSection
