Can Thunderbird let you kill a whole thread when sorted by thread?

And of course all that happens when you do this that the next time 
someone replies to the thread you have an orphan post.

The biggest problem with this list* is that there are waaay to many 
people who have issues sending properly formatted, threaded messages to 
the list.  I get to the point every few months when I can't face reading 
another html email , top post or message with either no subject or a 
random one.

* Of course this is a generic problem with 'open' mailing lists where 
anyone can squirt messages to a mass audience.
