Not so OT, when my stb, fridge, wireless keyboard + touchpad, remote
control, projector, microwave, light switch, curtains, heater, air
conditioner and practically everything else that uses electrickery, all
have internet visible IP addresses and so can be controlled from
anywhere it will have ramifications for MythTV.

Imagine when your backend starts to over heat during a long transcodeing
session it can just turn on the Aircon (actually I'm going to try to set
this up with an IR blaster), imagine that your wireless keyboard +
touchpad uses wifi instead of bluetooth and doesn't compete for the same
overcrowded 2.4GHz spectrum, imagine your front door intercom system is
an SIP hardware phone that just dials your SIP account so your IP phones
at home, work, and the Wifi phone in your pocket all ring at once, when
you answer you can see video of the person who rang the bell and can
buzz them in or not, imagine when you start a movie on myth it can close
the curtains, pull down the projector screen, dim the lights, lock the
cat door so it's out only, and generally set thing up without using the
very old and busted x10 protocol.

There are a million really cool things we can do once everything is
accessible directly from anywhere, most of these things are possible now
but only for the nerd who's happy to ssh in and setup tunnels, even for
them it'll become much easer with IPv6, I can't wait.

Another thing is that because IPv6 addresses will be geographically
distributed, internet backbone routers can become much simpler as they
won't need big lookup tables, this will reduce latency and hopefully
bandwidth by making routers cheaper, though it may hurt Cisco.

If the OP wants more ideas search /. as they've done this ad nauseam.
