True, but some of the "blasters" around might be better describes as
"dribblers". The ones drives by the control lines from serial ports
in particular do not have the output power that a typical remote
control has, and you might have to be in a darkened room to see their
output on a digital camera.
This is not necessarily bad. If you are going to mount the blaster
right on the controlled device you do not need a lot of optical
power, and keeping the output low might prevent undesired operation
of other devices.
