Which can take 100% of a core on a multi-core system while still 
allowing X and other processes to execute on the other core...

Still, though, a dual-core that's slower-enough than a single-core will 
be worse than the single-core.  (Figuring out the value of 
"slower-enough" for any given processor (at any given speed) is an 
exercise left to the reader.)
