Go with the Core 2 Duo duo. As a small example of just how more
efficient Intel's Core microarchitecture is than its previous designs,
my five months-old 1.6GHz quad-core Clovertown Xeon (E5310) slave
backend compiles the mythtv-suite ATrpms SRPM in about a half hour,
while my two years-old 3.0GHz Pentium 4 (HT 630) frontend/master
backend compiles it in about 45 minutes. This, even while the Xeon is
also running a VMware instance.

Right now, Intel's latest and greatest is so, so much better than
AMD's latest and greatest (and that much more so than Intel's previous
latest and greatest) that anyone who buys something other than it to
build a MythTV box--as notorious a horsepower-drainer as anything out
there--ought to have very good reasons for doing so.
