ok thanks everybody, I'm using .20, so database fiddling it was (and
not even backed up, bad boy!).  unfortunately, there was no easy way
for a at least partly automated method, as I was mainly moving the
kids' movies to a new kids/ directory.  phpmyadmin was my friend ...
no problems encountered during or while manipulating the data.

BTW, is there a way to have the folder icons in the gallery view
display some kind of logo (similar to the cover image for a movie)
instead of just the yellow square folder icon?
