Nine times out of ten it works even if the chipsets are different. 
Unlike Windows, Linux generally has all the chipset drivers it needs in
the kernel, and will pick the right ones on boot.  Problems arise mainly
if the boot device "moves," or if you've compiled a custom kernel with a
reduced set of drivers.
