Yeah, but with you play a DVD right from the drive, it uses mplayer dvd://. 
Which already has audio/video.

Why can't you just have something like Mplayer cd:// ?  Or hopefully 
something with more control?

The problem is that you need a separate cable running from your CD drive
to the audio-in on your sound card.  With this, you should be able to
play CDs.

Ideally, Myth should have a "play CD" option that can be set up to
either use the audio input method described above, or use a rip-and-play
method, (and either discarding or saving the results when playback is
stopped).
