"Seagate warranty periods are 1 year, 2 years or 5 years from the
documented date of purchase, depending on the type of product and
where it was purchased: The warranty period is 5 years for internal
hard drives purchased anywhere worldwide (i.e., products requiring
incorporation within the chassis of a computer - normally labelled
"Internal Hard Drive Upgrade Kit"). For all other products purchased
in a European Union Member State, the warranty period is 2 years.
Otherwise, the warranty period is 1 year."

Whatever brand of drive you buy, keep your proof of purchase safe, and
if unsure, check at the time of purchase what the level of warranty is
for your drive.
