[mythtv-users] video plays too fast on ABC. out of sync.

When I do that, the recording still plays too fast and the audio speeds up
to try to keep up. Everyone sounds like chipmunks and the audio still gets
off slightly and then catches back up every couple of seconds. I was under
the impression that mythtv uses mplayer to play back recordings. Outside of
myth the abc recordings play fine.

I suppose you tried changing "Use Video As Timebase" in the Playback
options?
