don't know if the sensors init script does the initial setup or not. I always
manually set lm_sensors up first.

as root:
sensors-detect
take the defaults. When it's done, it will tell you what lines to add to your
/etc/rc.d/rc.local file and what lines to add to your /etc/modprobe.conf file.
Once those files are updated and run, sensors should start working.
