[mythtv-users] Considering HDHomeRun, is this a bad time to buy an HD-5500?

I've check the silicon dust forums, but can't find any good info. Can
one of you that are using this thing please tell me... How does it
work? Okay, that's too broad, but one of the things that concerns me
is:
<quote from http://www.silicondust.com/zxc/content/view/5/26/ >IR
Receiver - use most standard remotes to signal your PC</quote>

... How do you change channels on it? Does it have a protocol so that
a myth backend can control it via ethernet (or does it need an IR
blaster)? Does the thing send 2 channels of data over your network
24/7, even if you have no recordings scheduled? Honestly, I'm amazed
to hear that people are using this thing happily. The details are so
sketchy that I'd have guessed this for vaporware.
