Better yet, why isn't the list available via gmane?  The list could be
carried read-only so that it could only be used to read the list, but
not post.  That would potentially be a bit more user-friendly than
digging through the archives for past posts.

I tried registering the list on gmane but they indicated that the list
owners did not want it carried.  Any reason for this?
