Are you running 0.20?

If you run this query:
select * from settings where value = "UseXvMCForHDOnly";

You should get something like:
+------------------+------+----------+
| value | data | hostname |
+------------------+------+----------+
| UseXvMCForHDOnly | 1 | june |
+------------------+------+----------+
(with your frontend hostname...)

The easiest way to see that this is working is to bring up a SD digital
station and notice that the OSD is in color... You can then flip to an
HD station and the OSD will be back to monochrome...

It bears repeating that all of this will only work right if you already
have a stable XvMC configuration. If you are still having problems with
XvMC this will only make matters... more confusing.

Also, I should note that while this does not fix _all_ of the issues
that the Internal DVD player has -- I still can't play burned discs, for
example -- but it does make it workable. You might want to try a
different DVD, though I would try the HD / SD channel test first.

In my case, I found the trade off of having a native OSD and UI worth
the occasional touchy DVD -- I ended up setting up the VCD player to run
'xine -f dvd://' and I use that for discs that I _know_ won't play. This
gives me a nice hybrid system; I get to use the Internal player most of
the time. (It also makes that VCD menu item mean something to me... I
haven't seen a VCD since 1998...)
