[mythtv-users] Ratpoison on dedicated frontend

Hi Everyone!

Just finished installing Fedora & MythTV via Jarod's guide on the following
(spare parts) machine.
Celeron 333MHz overclocked to 550MHz
262M RAM (every leftover stick I had)
10G IDE harddrive
Nvidia FX 5200
SB Live
DLink 108 wireless with madwifi drivers.

Everything is "working" except that every so often, playback will pause for
about a second then continue. It's pretty long between pauses, on the order
of 10 minutes or so. However, if I wake up in the middle of the night and
the video is still playing after a few hours, it is very choppy.

I don't think it is the wireless since my standalone backend/front end is
networked through a 102.11b gaming adapter and I get nice smooth video on my
vmware virtual machine running on an Athlon 64.

My guess is that the machine is just barely too slow so I decided to try
ratpoison to free up some resources. I yum installed it, selected it from
custom session, clicked to make it default and setup a ~mythtv/.xsession
file just as it says here

However I don't think this file is every executed as mythfrontend never
starts. So I RTFM at ratpoison site (which doesn't mention anything about
how to install ratpoison btw). and decided to create a .ratpoisonrc file
too. Doesnt seem that this gets executed either since frontend still doesnt
start up. Also when I ctrl-t or ctrl-c, no terminal pops up. I obviously
don't know anything about ratpoison and the documentation is horrible unless
you already know how to use it.

Anyone have any idea what boneheaded thing I'm doing wrong ;)

One other thing that is weird is that every so often during playback, it
will just quit out of playback back to the mythtv gui menus...

Thanks for any help!
Eric
