Hmm. It should be 50Hz, but modeline was:

ModeLine "720x576"      16.25   720  780  900 1040      576  600  615  6
25 -hsync -vsync interlace

Since then, I ended up just saying "Sod it" and leaving it to the nvidia auto 
select, which chose a 1024x768 resolution (with no interlace), and it 
delivers a much better picture! So I turned off interlacing, and all is still 
well (actually, it's a *really* nice picture!). That's what I get for 
assuming that I'm smarter than the GPU.

However, when I (eventually) need to go to HDTV, I suspect that this creature 
will rear its head again.
