It really depends on your hardware.

I'm in the process of redoing my entire home network, and I recently
finished my new frontend on FC5 x86_64. It's a very new motherboard that
requires the latest version of ALSA, and it still doesn't quite work right
with newer kernels (I have to disable APIC via the boot parameters). I'm
not sure that it would work against CentOS.

My backend on the other hand, is my generic fileserver/e-mail server, etc.
I'd really like to put ClarkConnect on it, but one piece of hardware is
holding me up on that - my DVicO FusionHDTV 5 Lite, which requires 2.6.13
or higher to function. The necessary code hasn't been backported to the
CentOS/RHEL 4 kernel (2.6.9.something), and I can't compile the LinuxTV
"CVS" (Mercurial) code to use with it because the minimum version (as
stated by the Makefile) is higher than 2.6.9.

Now, once I get my hands on an HDHomeRun, I can replace the FusionLite and
go with my ClarkConnect solution, but until then, my backend is still on
FC5.

With CentOS, you get an OS with a longer supported lifetime, but the
actual updates are more for security fixes than new features.
