Of course you could record directly to MPEG-4 either using a frame-
grabber and a lot of CPU power, or by hardware encoding using the
Plextor Convert-X.
The Plextor files actually look pretty good. There are some problems
like needing to transcode to MPEG-2 if you want to burn a DVD, and
the MediaMVPs not being able to play the files. These problems would
not affect all users.
