Just to be clear: 17 seconds was my absolute worst case for going to
live TV. This was right after launching mythtv, and without using
XvMC. If I use XvMC it's much better, and if I've already gone to
live TV once, it's even better. In those cases it takes around 6
seconds to go to live TV. I just measured my channel-change time
again and it's around 4 seconds most of the time (a few times it took
6 seconds), which is better than it used to be. Still not as good as
other apps or tivo, but somewhat bearable at least.
Hardware and software haven't changed, but I did recently run
'mythtranscode --rebuild', 'mythcommflag --rebuild' and the
optimize_mythdb.pl script from the contrib folder. Maybe one
of those had the side-effect of making channel-switches a little
faster? Something to try for the original poster.
