[mythtv-users] Stop a recording after frontend crash

Hi,
I know this question is old and I have even answered to it in earlier
occasions (trying to help), but, before restarting my backend which in
this moment seems to be the only and very waf-consuming solution, here
is my problem:
Frontend has been watching live tv when there was a power loss at the
frontend (and the rest of the house except the backend which has UPS).
Now the frontend says that the satelite receiver is busy recording. The
program that is recorded is not purple in the recordings list but if I
watch it and pause, I can see that the remaining time is increasing.
(The backend has kept on going and is recording every single program on
the active channel now.)
When I go to the delete recordings screen and try to delete it, the
frontend can't because it is "used by backend". The backend in mythweb
says the receiver card is used for live tv.
Only restarting the backend fixed the problem. I think it would be a
very good design goal to make a tv system that can be operated without a
technical support department (me) and that does not suffer a severe
disturbance when a frontend is shutdown brutely while watching live tv.
The suggestions of many users have been to make the backend aware of a
crashing frontend. These requests are always widely ignored or turned
down by the people who know much about the system, so I suppose they
have been discussed in depth and discarded on the dev list? Please give
me a hint so I can read that for my peace of mind and not bringing it up
again.
Opinions?
Cheers
Matthias
