No, the problem is that some plasmas won't accept a 1366x768 signal,
even if that's their native resolution. See e.g. this 50" from
Philips:
http://www.consumer.philips.com/consumer/catalog/catalog.jsp?fhquery=fh_secondid%3D50pf7320_79_au_consumer%26fh_location%3D%2F%2Fconsumer%2Fen_AU%2Fcategories%3Ccatalog_au_consumer%2Fcategories%3Ctv_gr_au_consumer%2Fcategories%3Cflat_tv_ca_au_consumer%26&productId=50PF7320_79_AU_CONSUMER&activeCategory=TV_GR_AU_CONSUMER&fredhopperpage=detail.jsp&activeTab=specifications&language=en&country=AU&catalogType=CONSUMER&proxybuster=1VWOX4R4U5NQHJ0RMRCSHP3HKFSESI5P

It's 1366x768, but the modes it takes are 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768,
1280x1024. Whatever mode you use that plasma will be doing some
scaling.

If you get a plasma that accepts a 1366x768 signal you might get a
better picture (or you might not).

Ultimately you want to buy the one that looks the best regardless of
what it's doing internally, but you're probably not going to be able
to test it properly in advance.
