If you're using Gentoo then make sure your user is in
the "audio" group.

If your machine is purely for mythtv I'm surprised
that you're autologging in using as heavy weight a
system as Gnome autologin, since you're using Gentoo
and since we're all ricers ;-)

I just use mingetty and run startx from ~/.bashrc and
then ran mythfrontend from ~/.xinitrc If you grep for
"gentoo mythtv mingetty", or something, I'm sure
you'll find the wiki.
