I ended up sticking in a PCI MX4000, downloaded and installed the 8756 
NVIDIA drivers and lo and behold, the issue is gone...

Ergo it is something in either the config or driver for the SIS (741) 
Real256 integrated VGA...

As the motherboard doesn't have onboard TV-out anyway, I think I'll 
leave the MX4000 in and use it's sVideo out...

That means that the system is more or less complete, and the only thing 
left is to make everything fit in the case *and* still be able to close 
it afterwards!  ;-)

Which means getting out the Dremel, cutting discs and metal strips to 
make braces and brackets... (Oh, and order a right-hand 90 degree PCI 
riser to fit the PVR 250 inside the case... Otherwise it'll stic out of 
the top of the cover <G>)
