I find the experience to be the opposite. I'm using an iBook G4 (1
GHz) and I have no real problems playing back videos. If I'm willing
to put up with some dropped frames, I can get my system to playback
an H.264 720p trailer (scaled to fix the 1024x768 resolution of my
screen) using QuickTime (probably could do better with software with
less bloat).

I have some problems with stream stuttering, but that's mostly from
the fact I'm using 802.11b in less-than-perfect situations (network
traffic, 2.4 GHz mobile phone, microwaves, and thick plaster walls!
Everything but the lead paint! ;). When I copy a stream directly over
to the hard disk, I have no problems. That's Standard Def MPEG-2
(from 320x240 to 740x480).

I'd probably recommend the XBox in this case too, though. I have an
XBox front-end, and I'd have to say it's working out very nicely for
me. It'll probably cause you less trouble than trying to get Myth to
work on a G3 350 MHz.
