Sam, try "Information Centre" / "System Status" / "Log Entries". 

You may also want to check out "Utilities / Setup" / "Setup" / "TV 
Setting" / "General" / "Extra Disc Space" as there is a chance this may 
explain why recordings are expiring earlier than you thought they 
should.  I can't remember if i changed the default setting, its 
currently 1 GB on my system. If your setting is also 1 GB, a 1/2 hour 
show is likely be greater than 1 GB which would total greater than the 2 
GB you have available.  If you don't want to change settings, you may 
want to try a custom recording and specify a duration of 15 minutes or less.
