I was confused to start with, I thought I had a handle on this, but
now I'm confused again :-(

I have the X display set to 720x576. Using a DisplaySize of 182 145,
the X server log tells me I have a dpi of 100x100. I found this by
trial and error. Surely setting the DisplaySize to 182 137 will give
me a different DPI?
