I tend to agree with you. I don't see why 1080i is any different in their 
drivers than 480i. Whatever you supply, the card should know what the actual 
component outputs should do.

Note, we're not talking about VGA or DVI outputs, which aren't a-priori 
designed to talk to a TV with fixed formats.
