I had no problem with the driver using OpenGL Vsync (I'm using 7676 too).  What I was getting at was that with both it and XvMC turned on, I got lots of XvMC glitches.  Of course, re-reading your original note, I see your problem is high CPU.  So different problem.  But yes, using XvMC lowered my CPU usage.

I'm running FC4 with xorg 6.8.2, FX5200, deinterlace Bob, Standard XvMC, realtime priority threads enabled, and extra audio buffering.
