And in the end all of that comes down to a question of whether you 
believe, as a consumer, that the name-brand manufacturer is going to 
exert some influence on the production standards of its suppliers....

And we can all point to name-brand manufacturers who work quite hard at 
that. Since there are probably only about 4 major manufacturers of TFT 
displays, the differences will be in a) the defect levels (pixel 
problems) allowed in the display, and b) the capabilities of the 
electronics including the user-friendliness of the system, And big name 
outfits seem to spend more time on those aspects.

So just because it's globalized does not mean it must become crap. I do 
not expect that Lenovo will start producing crap Thinkpads for example. 
To the contrary, their best interest is to make them better than IBM 
ever did!.
