Are you both on the same ISP ? 

About a month ago, there were some others here in Lincoln Nebraska that
on Inebraska Road Runner couldn't reach zap2it.com  The website failed
as well as mythfilldatabase and even a ping.   There were a few others
from Vancouver BC that had the same problem.  

At that time, a hop within the AT&T network was dropping packets and
wouldn't allow connection to zap2it.com.  I would go to work which is on
the Time Warner Road Runner network and could connect just fine.  

Run a traceroute and see if that's what happened to your father.  

If so, I don't know what they did to fix it.  After about 5-6 days it
all of a sudden began to work.  ???
