[mythtv-users] edit recordings without watching them

Is there way to edit recording when it is not possible to watch it online?

Most of my shows are recorded with 6000 - 8000 bps. There are a lot of
commercials inside, sometimes up to 50% of total length. So it wastes a
lot of disk space. Commercial autodetecting gets a lot of false positives
inside commercial breaks (there are often black frames during commercial
breaks). Because of this it is not possible to start transcoder
automatically and needs some manual edit of cutpoints before.

Now lets imagine that I'm out of home where I can access my BE but I have
only 2 Mbps uplink from my house. When I'm away days, I'd like edit
cutlist remotely and start transcoding jobs to get everything ready for
time I'm back at home.

Right now it is not possible to enter edit mode without playing the
recording. Of course it is not possible to play it over 2 Mbps link. FE
gets something like that if I start playing recording and imediately press 'E'

Basically in edit mode when I need to see only still frames it should be
possible to use much slower link than realtime playback needs.

The way to overcome this I propose something like this:

- add 'Edit' to the recording menu (right arrow from recrodings screen)
- make it possible to enter directly to the edit mode where you can later
  - exit with ESC or
  - go to playback with 'E' if it is possible (enough bandwidth available)
but stay in edit mode if it is not possible

What do you think about that?
