I owned a 3ware card at one time.. I ran it with 4 ide drives in a raid 0.
Worked great. But... Running in a raid 5 config is horrible..

I now own a Promise Sata controller which cost me $40.00 and yes it uses my
CPU for raid 5 but at least I get great perfomance from it and I didn't
spend $300-$400 for a useless card.
