[mythtv-users] OT: Interstate Moving company needed...

Asking about moving companies on the Myth list is certainly off-topic
but on the other hand, everyone here should recognize the name of the
original poster (if not, search the archives).

I wish I could offer more assistance, but the best I can offer is to DIY.

I just moved with my wife from DC to Chicago, also a one-room flat.

We looked into all kind of options first. The full-service kind of
places (reputable or not) were orders of magnitude above our budget.

The next option we looked at were the 'you-pack-we-drive' type of
services. For the cubic size and distance we needed, the rate would
have been around $1,000 - $1,500. In the end, this didn't turn out to
be practical for us. One service we looked at would give you a section
of a large trailer and about three days to fill it, and give them
about a week to deliver the trailer. Another would drop off
container(s) at your location and then deliver them to the new
location. It couldn't work for us because there was no place to park a
trailer for that long, and nowhere to keep a container until it was
picked up.

That being said, my brother moved from DC to Phoenix about five years
ago using the first option and was very happy with it.

I can't remember the names of the services we looked at or the name of
the company my brother used, but whoever it is, make sure you talk to
them first. Be prepared with your questions, listen closely to their
answers (and non-answers) and you should be able to tell whether a
given outfit is legit or not.

We ended up renting a 14-foot truck from Budget for around $600. There
was plenty of room for all our stuff and it was fairly easy to drive.
I'd recommend Budget over U-Haul because Budget's trucks tend to be
compatible with loading docks (assuming you're moving from/to a
complex). The folks from Budget were also very easy to deal with on
both ends.

Good luck.
