Not booting with 5 cards in the box sounds more like a bus/IRQ problem.

With respect to the PVR500 and pcHD cards;
First: you need to have 2 separate and distinct channel lineups, one for
each card. The lineups cannot overlap. Depending on your supplier, you
may get the same feed on 2 different channels but each source must be
distinct. One is for the analog channels, the other for the digital
channels.

Second: the channel numbering in your guide may not differentiate which
channel is on which source lineup. You can play with this to a certain
extent in mythtv-setup by changing the underline or dash to a number or
nothing so that 10_1 becomes 101. This may separate the channels.

Third: Your wife is having problems with your setup because you have to
change tuners to change from your channel 10 to your channel 9 or 11,
since those 2 channels are digital channels which are only available
through the digital card.
At the present time, mythtv does not change tuners for you from the live
tv display (although it will do so, from the Guide).

Fourth: If you are in live TV and browse channels, the OSD should ONLY
show the channels which your present tuner can tune. At least that is
what happens on my post-version 19 SVN setup. Try setting browse mode.
This will prevent you from selecting an unobtainable channel while in
live tv.
